Hide the sin of pompous pride,
And profess equality with the rest.
Remove my bloated and swollen self-worth.
Remove my swaggering superiority.
Remove my swelled-headed, haughty conceit.
(By the way, did you know I'm the best?)
Banish the sin of puffed-up pride,
And honor modesty - Yes, really love it.
I must not be immersed in swollen self-worth.
I must not indulge in swaggering superiority.
I must not invite a swelled-headed conceit.
(Hey! I'm the greatest and really proud of it!)
Dismiss the sin of boastful pride,
And celebrate a more humble pursuit.
The Lord will forgive me my swollen self-worth.
The Lord will keep me despite my superiority.
The Lord will cleanse me of all my conceit.
(Still, humility is not my strong suit.)
And there the lofty amaryllis, elevated by the dirt it's in,
Floral symbol and reminder of vainglorious pride's most arrogant sin.
